BETTY JB BROUWER
Bringing together her love of texture, collage, and collecting stones and sticks, Betty’s art reveals rich textures and little snippets of stories as she stitches various pieces into mixed media textile assemblages. For Betty the process of art making is intuitive: frayed remnants and worn edges hold memories that, when stitched together, create a coherent narrative out of seemingly chaotic and disparate pieces. In the midst of sometimes unraveling or crude stitches, hope emerges. Her art holds echoes of her clinical work where she witnesses coherent life narratives emerge from the chaos of developmental trauma. Betty J.B. Brouwer is a registered art therapist and psychotherapist. She holds a MSc. From University of Guelph and graduate level diploma from the Toronto Art Therapy Institute.
